White Lion Foods is also a grower and exporter of fresh garlic from Peru. Our fields are in the Andean mountains, 4000 metres above sea level, which helps the garlic gain an utterly amazing purple colour.
The Brazil nut tree is part of the delicate web of life in the Amazon. Previous attempts to cultivate the brazil nut tree on plantations have failed, making Brazil nuts the only commercial nut found exclusively in Amazon forests. This distinction, together with the rising demand for these Amazon nuts, has encouraged the Peruvian, Bolivian and Brazilian governments to mandate the conservation of the Brazil nut tree, making it illegal to cut them down!

Two-thirds of our cost of production comes from the purchase of raw materials from collectors, to whom we pay the highest market price possible. This secures the best quality raw material available. The Brazil nut industry generates employment for over 100,000 people and is the most important employer in the Amazonian state of Madre de Dios in Peru, where we are based. We are very proud to be a key player in the socio-economics of all the communities involved in this amazing industry!
White Lion Foods’ Brazil nut factory is located 50 kilometres from the capital city of Madre de Dios, Puerto Maldonado, in a small town called Alegria (which means happiness in Spanish!). We are immensely proud of creating jobs in this remote area of the Amazon region, as nearly 60% of our workforce comes from the town of Alegria. Many of the workforce are developing a career path at our company, as we vow to help them fulfil their professional journey.
